Vermont DOE Announces New Grant Program to Support High School Innovation

Request for Proposals: Innovative 21st Century Practices in Vermont Secondary Schools

A recently announced Vermont Department of Education grant program will support high schools committed to developing sustainable models of innovation in two priority policy areas: (1) moving towards proficiency-based graduation decisions and (2) developing flexible learning pathways for all students. Grant funding will be available as of August 1, 2011, for the 2011-2012 school year.

Recipients of the grant will be inducted into the New England Secondary School Consortium's League of Innovative Schools, which is founded on the belief that professional integrity, authentic collaboration, and self-accountability can motivate, sustain, and enhance school improvement.

A complete application for the grant will be due in July, but interested Vermont school should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining their proposal and a brief description of the school's capacity and readiness to undertake the work. Letters of intent are due to the Vermont Department of Education by June 24, 2011. Please email all questions and letters to John Fischer at john.fischer@state.vt.us.
